Cables and Shells Tunic: Finished!

Well, this one was even easier than I thought it would be.  Had I just been working on this I could have finished in 2 or 3 days.  However, I’ve also been working on several small projects (to be revealed soon.)  The Dove yarn is super soft and a pleasure to work with.  It’s a little pricey but it was difficult to find a good substitute for it so I splurged this time.  Since I added rows to the top part, I eliminated 2 rows at the bottom.  I still have a good amount of yarn left though so I might end up adding to it anyway.

I wore it last night to my Mother-in-law’s house for Valentine’s dessert. Here it is looking kinda crooked… I must have been standing funny:

Cables and Shells Tunic: Getting Started

Much like many other Doris Chan patterns, this is working up quickly and easily!  I got started Sunday night (not quite February yet but I couldn’t wait) and before I knew it I was nearly half way done already.

The pattern is worked basically all in one piece starting with the upper back.

Then you fasten off and attach the front shoulder pieces as you go, use foundation sc for the underarms and work down from there.  No seaming!

I’m making size “small” and while it looked very small when I started, the nature of fpdc makes the fabric pretty stretchy.  Once I got the underarms started I tried it on and it seems it will fit just fine around but seemed a bit short.  I ended up having to add 4 extra rows of the cable/shell pattern before starting the “waist band” section.

Vacation

I’m heading off tomorrow to Florida for a week to visit my Grandma.  I’m very much looking forward to getting out of this 30 degrees and icy weather for some nice 60+ degrees and sunny!  Last time I flew I discovered just how relaxing crocheting is during takeoff.  I’m not checking anything this time which means my traveling crochet projects must be kept to a minimum.  I think I might leave the felted bag at home since there’s not much left to do and take either my socks or my lacy scarf (which you can see in my project progress bar to the right- I’ve not yet blogged about it but I have been working on it off and on since November.)

I am planning to take my laptop so I may very well update from Florida but who knows.  I’m also looking forward to starting the February 2010 CAL when I get back and I’ve been putting some thought into what I might crochet in March.  I bought the pattern for the Crystalline Snood infinity scarf so that is certainly on the table.  I’ve also been thinking about making something with Jelly Yarns in the future so watch for that!
