‘3/10 Crystaline Snood’ Archives

Happy April

I love April… lots of flowers growing, spring smells, soothing rainstorms, my birthday ;)

Just a couple days ago I finished up my March CAL project, the Crystaline Snood.  It was a more complex pattern than I expected but it turned out beautifully.  It’s a bit smaller than the one in the pattern because I used lace weight yarn instead of the called for DK weight so it fits a little more closely around my neck, which I prefer.

So, on to the next project… my April CAL (which I’ve just started) will be Doris Chan’s Walking After Midnight skirt from her book Amazing Crochet Lace.  I’m using Comfy Sport in black, a really soft cotton acrylic blend sport weight yarn from Knit Picks.

Crystaline Snood: Getting Started

The beginning is pretty straightforward on this so it started up easy. I had a little confusion at round 5. It’s written a little strangely but the trick is to read through the whole section carefully before starting it. There is also a help forum/walkthrough on this Ravelry forum.  Here’s a photo of my project at the part where you create the “chain 7 bridge”…

You can either turn the work to slip stitch into the previous arch or you can take your hook out completely and insert it into the stitch to be slipped into (which is what I’m showing.) There’s also a close up photo of it here.

After that it’s just a matter of repeating 2 rows so once you solve the “bridge” problem you’ve already got the rest of it down!

Happy National Crochet Month!

National Crochet Month

According to the Crochet Guild of America, March is National Crochet Month.  Here are some festive ideas for celebrating NatCroMo:

  • Learn a new technique such as Tunisian, Freeform, Broomstick Lace or Hairpin Lace
  • Teach a friend how to crochet
  • Design/write your own pattern (I’ve got a new one nearly ready to be released!)
  • Crochet, at least a little bit, every day
  • Join a Crochet-A-Long (such as my March Crystaline Snood CAL or this Mystery CAL)
  • Post a tutorial showing how to make something or how to do a specific technique
  • Wear your crochet!

Throughout the month I will be posting links to my favorite crochet blogs, helpful tutorials, free patterns, Etsy stores and other crochet resources.  I’ll also be documenting my own crocheting and I’d love to post reader’s photos and/or feature your crochet blog or store so let me know what you’re doing for NatCroMo!
