The first (of at least 2) crocheted kitchen rug is finished! I was originally going to crochet a border around it but it wasn’t working out the way I’d hoped it would so I decided to leave it as is. I washed and blocked it last night… washed in vinegar to keep the colors from bleeding. The reason I went with gray instead of white is because I was afraid the black and red would bleed into the white. It doesn’t look like anything bled but there was an awful lot of lint from the yarn. I think it will look better after a second washing. I’m happy with the way it turned out though – it’s the perfect size for in front of the sink and very nice and cushy to stand on. I’m now working on a small matching rug to go under our pug’s food bowls. I’ll post patterns for both in the near future :)

I had planned to use a free semi-circle rug pattern and then I thought, why not write my own pattern for this. I’d like to have something modern and striking in my kitchen so here’s my idea. A couple years ago I designed a purse using the Fibonacci spiral… originally being an idea for an afghan. I never wrote down the pattern though. I think it would make a perfect rug pattern so I’m finally going to publish it. I have two different ideas: one being the original spiral pattern and the other being simple stripes. The yarn (Peaches and Creme Double Worsted Cotton) arrived yesterday and I started the Fibonacci Stripes Rug last night. It’s going so quickly that I’ll probably get started on the spiral squares rug next week.
