Our living room is interesting. We have a big dark sage green couch, a bright orange leather chair and ottoman, light gray carpet, medium-dark wood trim and lamps and shades of taupe, cream, and green here and there. The whole room is drawn together with artwork. We have a big abstract painting by a local artist that is full of bright oranges and reds, dark blues and greens, light blue and yellow… it has inspired some bold choices in furniture that I probably would have otherwise been unlikely to include in the room.
I’ve always seen it as a beach house: there is a “roof shape” next to a textured blue that reflects the house and a light “sky” area above. What do you see?
This room needs a paint job badly but I think that with all of the bold furniture perhaps the paint should be neutral. I love the look of bright orange and light yellow and light blue with light cool grays. In our previous apartment we had wood floors so there was a big Persian rug that gave the room a vaguely Middle-Eastern theme. Now that we have carpet and don’t need the rug in that room, I’m thinking of going with a more contemporary theme… where perhaps a George Nelson clock would be right at home.
My mom recently finished a quilt for our bedroom (I’ll post a photo when I post about the bedroom tomorrow) but it would look great in the living room as well. I have not yet thought about what I can crochet for this room. Of course I’m sure I’ll make an afghan for it sometime and may be some pillows. Any other ideas?
