I finally decided to do something with the wool lace weight yarn I picked up from Knit Picks and some lightweight fingerless mitts seemed like a good thing to try. I used this Friendship Mitten pattern but altered it so that it was open at the end.
It’s a pretty easy pattern with cool cables along the top (which don’t show up in the photos very well). I made the x-small size (I have tiny hands) and stopped just before the decreases and instead made 6 rows of ribbing (same as the cuffs). They are long for fingerless mitts but my intention was to make them long enough to keep most of my hand warm and able to be folded down for better use of my fingers.
Even though I used an F hook and lace yarn, this project went way faster than I though it would. I hate making pairs of things and often put it off so long that I forget what I altered, etc. This time I took notes of my changes and got started with the second one immediately and I’m so glad I did. I finished them both in just a weekend! The lace yarn is wool, so even though they’re light and holey, they’re still very warm and fuzzy. I haven’t tried them out in the snow yet though. I might need some full-on bulky mittens for winter still. We’ll see :)
