About
I am an interior and architectural designer by day and a crocheter/designer the rest of the time. When I was a kid, I always wanted to learn to crochet afghans like my grandma, mom and aunts did but for some reason I never spent the time to do so. I spent a lot of time in high school doing macrame instead. I finally taught myself to crochet in 2005 during an employment lull after grad school and was surprised at how naturally it came to me. I began with a couple skeins of Red Heart acrylic yarn, a six pack of plastic hooks and a pamphlet of stitch patterns. I had no idea that there were so many things besides afghans to crochet! Over the next few years I worked my way through many scarves, hats, bags, ornaments, hot pads, small blankets, toys, and eventually sweaters. I tried out lots of different yarns, hooks and patterns one by one and started improvising patterns when I couldn’t find the perfect one.
I started this blog to document my patterns, projects, design philosophies and ongoing learning processes and to share them with other crocheters out there. My favorite projects are seamless and/or customizable. I’ll almost never start a project that requires sewing many pieces together and I’d like to demonstrate some ways to avoid doing so. I also like to conserve leftover yarn so I find ways to use up even the smallest of scraps. I enjoy using yarns of all thicknesses and fiber contents, mixing yarn types within a single project and experimenting with new stitches and techniques. I may finally decide to learn to knit at some point in the future and I’ll surely document my learning process from the perspective of a crocheter.
I live in a small house in Indiana with my husband and our beloved pug puppy. When I’m not working or crocheting I enjoy yoga, gardening, brewing and tasting craft beer and experimenting with vegetarian cuisine.
