Quit Your Day Job
Something I’d love to be able to do someday… and I’m working on it. There are so many inspiring stories on Etsy about people who have successfully turned a crafting hobby into a business that makes them a living. I’ve listed a few of my crocheted scarves on etsy but what I plan to do in the long run is to design and sell crochet patterns (among other things.) You can find three free patterns that I’ve written here on my blog and I’m currently putting the finishing touches on my first pattern that will be for sale soon! There is certainly a lot more work that goes into a pattern that will be sold. First of all, it’s a slightly more complex pattern so more work goes into making it very clear and easy to understand. I also want it to be well presented and worth the money for anyone who buys it. It’s currently being tested and revised so watch for it to be available within the next week or so.
But back to “quit your day job” fantasies :)
These stories in particular are inspiring to me:
- A mother and daughter jewelry making team who used to be in civil engineering and interior decorating.
- A fellow architectural designer turned paper artist who began her crafting business to be home with her newborn son.
- A couple were able to quit their day jobs to make jewelry from recycled skateboards.
- Lots more Etsy stories here.
- and perhaps most inspiring to me (but not Etsy-related) is Nick’s Tutorials… my own husband who ditched being a lawyer to start his own music tutorial business that has been more successful than I ever thought it could be. He’s demonstrated to me first hand that it’s completely possible to make a living from home.
