June CAL: Nadie

I picked an easy one since June was such a busy month for me. I actually finished this a while ago. Nadie is such an easy pattern and I could have even finished it in one day if I tried. I decided to make it a fixed loop instead of a buttoned closure headband. I used Knit Picks Shine Sport in “hydrangea” and “silver sage” that I had leftover from my crochet embellished denim skirt … it is sooo soft!

I think next month I’ll be making a crocheted kitchen rug, a free crochet pattern from Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Company.

Moving and Summer Crochet Projects

We’re moving! The husband and I bought a house and we are moving into it this weekend. Therefore, I’ve been spending most of my spare time this week packing. I came across my crochet FO stash and briefly reflected on past projects. It can be hard to want to crochet when it starts getting hot outside (and it has been unseasonably hot this past week!) In the summer I like to crochet with thin, light cotton blend yarns and make practical summer things like market bags, head bands, light scarves, halter/tank tops, purses and cozies, etc.

One of my favorite summer crocheted items is one that I found hanging in a closet yesterday. The Cocoon Bag (designed by Cecily Keim) from the book “Crochet Me: Designs to Fuel the Crochet Revolution”. It is a pretty floral mesh market bag made with thin yarn designed to be a long narrow bag. When I made it I decided to turn it sideways and turn it into a wide but shallow bag.

Also, it’s about time I decided what my June CAL project will be. June is going to be very busy what with moving and being in a friend’s wedding amongst other things. I have a feeling that June is also going to be quite warm. I’ve decided on a quick and functional project: the Nadie headband (find the FREE pattern here, in both UK and US terms). I haven’t decided on yarn yet… I’ll have to dig through my stash :)

So tell me, what are your favorite summer yarn projects?

Knit & Crochet Blog Week: Day 6

knit and crochet blog week

Bring the fortune and life of a past finished project up to the present. Document the current state and use of an object you have knitted or crocheted, whether it is the hat your sister wears to school almost every day, or a pair of socks you wore until they were full of holes. Or maybe that sweater that your dad just didn’t like that much…

The Divine Hat. I love it so much that I made 2 of them for myself.  It’s so easy and turns out beautifully in worsted or sport weight yarn… and it’s a FREE pattern! I have one made with pink Lion Brand Microspun yarn (which feels nice but is a pain to work with, very splitty) and one made with Wool-Ease in white with an iridescent strand.  It looks like snow which is very pretty but I refuse to wear anything snow related before December :) I’m not wearing it too much right now as it’s nearing 80 degrees but it’s my favorite winter hat ever!
