Settling In

After a long “holiday” weekend we are all moved in and have made much progress with putting things away. Sadly, I have not touched a crochet hook in nearly a week. I did, however, make sure to keep all my yarn and hooks packed neatly and in a place where I knew I’d be able to find them easily so I should be able to get to them tonight.

We had some great friends to help us move and the new house is starting to feel like our home. Our pug was a little nervous for the first couple days… mostly because we had to lock her away in strange rooms while we moved so she wouldn’t escape or get kicked or crushed. She hates it when she can’t be by our sides constantly.

Right now I’m thinking about what colors to paint the walls. This is our first house and the first time I’ve been given the option to really decorate in a permanent way. Also, it really needs a paint job and I welcome the excuse to pick out colors. As an interior/crochet/general designer, I have color palettes swirling through my head all day as I walk through the rooms of the house. I really need to sit down with some samples, photos, paint chips, something so I can get a better vision of what I want to do. It’s a small house so I don’t want anything too dark but I also don’t want to just paint all the walls shades of beige and gray. Currently all the walls are cream-ish with hunter green (bleh!) trim in some areas.

This post (and the project) is getting long so I think I’ll tackle it on a room by room basis. I do have a few crochet project ideas that may play into the room decor. More to come…

Knit & Crochet Blog Week: Day 5

knit and crochet blog week

Where do you like to indulge in your craft? Is your favorite arm chair your little knitting cubby area, or do you prefer to ‘knit in public’? Do you like to crochet in the great outdoors, perhaps, or knit in the bath, or at the pub?

This one is easy!  I have crocheted on a plane and on a train and in the car and … hehe, well I won’t crochet at the bar because I don’t want to have my yarn stink like smoke or have beer spilled on it…  But my favorite place to crochet is at home on the couch with a pug in my lap :)

Since today is the last day of April, I’m going to wrap up my April CAL project, the Walking After Midnight skirt, and introduce my plan for the May Crochet-A-Long.  I’m not quite finished with the skirt but I’ll post photos of what I have so far.  I just need to finish the waist band part.  For May I’ve decided to use my own pattern, the Climbing Shells Mini Bag, and I’ll be marking down the price of it to $3.99 for the whole month for anyone who wants to crochet along :)

I’m going to make mine with an L hook and Jelly Yarn so it’s likely to turn out not-so-mini.

New Design Idea: Keyhole Cowl

My pug Meiby modeling a new design idea: a keyhole scarf inspired by the ones my grandma used to make.  I also just finished one made with bulky yarn.  Watch for a pattern soon!
