Elliot Cowl Pattern

This is a super easy circle scarf/cowl pattern made in a spiral so there is no joining or seaming. I really like the look of the reverse side of the half-double crochet stitch so I designed this pattern to showcase it but it is fully reversible and easily adjustable for length. The stitch pattern is simple enough that it works for men or women. To make a wider cowl simply chain more at the beginning. You can purchase the pattern here or find it on Ravelry.

Purse Designs

When I first started crocheting (when I was still afraid of making wearable garments) I made a lot of scarves and purses. Many of the purses were completely improvised and I never bothered to write patterns for them. Looking back, I’m wondering if maybe I should. Would you be interested in making these?

Spike Stitch Fur-Lined Purse:  Inspired by a spike stitch tutorial that I had found on CrochetMe several years ago.  It’s all wool with a fun fur strap and edging, felted.  Very simple construction, I liked how slouchy it turned out…

The Fibonacci Squares Purse and Spiral Pouch: Also felted wool… I’ve always loved math, particularly the golden ratio. This bag was originally an idea for an afghan but I figured a purse would be an easier place to start (I’ve still not made the afghan but someday I will.

The back is just striped… Then I made this little spiral coin purse to sort of go with it.

Beaded Racing Striped Purse: This one is made with Moda Dea Beadnik yarn (I thought it was really neat but it has been discontinued). I had just learned to do linked treble crochet stitches (kind of similar to Tunisian, I’d later find out) which forms a really dense, solid fabric.  So I designed this bag in mostly that stitch in a kind 0f 70s color scheme and stripe pattern.

My First Crocheted Socks

Way back in November I ordered some sock yarn from Knit Picks (very cheap as the color had been discontinued.)  I figured I’d finally try to crochet a pair of socks.  I searched Ravelry for patterns and settled on this one.  These are worked toe-up and are simple, seamless and worked in a spiral.  Perfect for a first pair of socks.

I started them later that month and it was easy until I got to the heel.  I tried several different things and it kept turning out weirdly.  I looked up the heel part on other patterns but I didn’t want to do the “after-thought” heel thing.  I wanted to do them all in one piece.  So, I got both socks finished to the heel and put them away while I worked on holiday projects.  This past weekend I picked them back up and finished the heels!

I don’t know what I was doing wrong before but this time it just clicked.  Now I just need to decide how tall they should be and how I want to finish the cuffs…
