I started this afghan and wrote it down as a free pattern over a year ago. I just kept adding rows as I found more scrap bulky yarn so I never actually “finished” it… until last night. I added a couple more rows and thought I’d measure it to see how far along I thought it was. It’s huge… over 7 feet from point to point! Very easy to be completely covered with, even for a tall person. So, I declared it finished and here it is. It’s very warm and surprisingly sturdy – full of wool blends, fun fur, boucle, bamboo, tweeds, metallics… I love it!

One of my new favorite patterns is the Boteh Scarf. It looks complicated but it’s actually very easy. I made one my trip to Maine back in October. It turned out even better than I hoped and is one of my favorite scarves. Here’s the finished product (but it looks so much better in person):

Later I made another one using some big bulky yarn. Started with 10 hdc instead of 15. I unraveled an ugly knit shrug sweater and hadn’t been able to figure out what to do with the yarn. It looks pretty good as a scarf but the color does nothing for me. I might dye it but I have no idea what the fiber content is. Looks wool-ish but might be an acrylic blend.

Instead of making the front and back separately and stitching them together at the end, I decided to crochet the bottom directly onto the front side and then start the back side crocheting into the bottom … less to sew together later!

I’m not completely sure yet how I’ll attach the sides/handle but I’ll figure that out later.
