HDC Wrist Warmers – Free Pattern

A few months ago I was commissioned to make some crochet accessories using hand spun alpaca yarn. This is one of the patterns that I created especially for that yarn. It’s a simple fingerless gloves pattern worked in a spiral in all half double crochet stitches through the back loop. It’s written for fluffy heavy worsted weight (aran) yarn but can be adapted for many other yarns. I’ve finally written it out and am offering it to you for FREE! (Add it to your Ravelry queue HERE)

about 100 yds of any heavy worsted weight yarn
5.5mm I hook

Stitch Definitions
fhdc = foundation half-double crochet
first stitch: ch3, yo, insert hook into first ch, pull up a loop, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through remaining 3 loops.
additional stitches: yo, insert hook into bottom loop of previous hdc, pull up a loop, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through remaining 3 loops.
blhdc = half-double crochet through back loop only
slst = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
ch = chain

Foundation round: fhdc 22 (or number needed so that when joined into a loop it’s long enough to fit over your hand easily.)
note: leave a 6 inch tail and use it to sew up the gap created at the beginning of foundation round.

Round 2: slst into top of first stitch (place stitch marker here to keep track of beginning of round), sc into back loop only of next stitch, blhdc in remaining stitches around (22 stitches)

Round 3: blhdcl around (22)

Rounds 4-6: repeat round 3 (add more rounds here for a longer wrist)

Round 8: repeat round 3 (23)

Round 9: repeat round 7 (24)

Round 10: repeat round 3 (24)

Round 11: repeat round 7 (25)

Round 12: repeat round 3 (25)

Round 13: repeat round 7 (26)

Round 14: repeat round 3 (26)

Round 15: ch 4, skip 4 st, blhdc in remaining 22 stitches (thumb hole made)

Round 16: blhdc in each ch, blhdc in remaining 22 stitches (26)

Round 17: repeat round 3 (add more rows here for a longer wrist warmer)

Round 18: blhdc in next 24 stitches, sc in back loop of next stitch, slst in back loop of next stitch

Edging round: *ch2, hdc in same stitch as slst, skip 1 st, slst into next st* repeat from * to * around (13 times). Finish off and weave in ends. Add edging along bottom edge if desired.
